Angel Food East

Angel Food East is an independent and ecumenical program that serves essentially homebound people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses regardless of gender, age, race, economic status, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. Clients are referred to us by Hudson Valley Community Service, Family of Woodstock, local hospitals, social service agencies as well as individual contacts.

A client once remarked that what makes this program so special is the love that goes into the meals. The program was established at St. John’s Episcopal Church, in Kingston, NY in 1991 and began serving meals in 1992.

On Mondays and Thursdays, volunteers gather in the parish kitchen to prepare four-course meals for up to 50 clients daily. These meals are delivered by volunteers directly to the clients at home. This ensures client confidentiality, while offering the clients direct, personal contact with caring members of their community. Approximately 60 volunteers plan meals, shop, cook and deliver the meals.
